The November books list. Not too many this month. Between work and classes, I haven't really had time to read.

Looks like I did a bit of reading this month. It's a good thing the list is behind a cut.

For a shorter month, there's more or less the usual number of books on the list (and a few on the way to being on the March list).

What is considered to be the first book in a series when you are reading it? The first book the author wrote, or the first book in the chronology? They're not always the same thing.

Mercedes Lackey, for example, started writing with the Arrows set, followed by the Last Herald Mage books, but the first set in the chronology is the Mage Wars set.

L.E. Modesitt's Recluse books are another example, I believe (though I'm not sure) that the Magic of Recluse was the first book in that series to be written, but The Fall of Angels is the first in the chronology.

Or, the Darkover series of Marion Zimmer Bradley. The first book in that one is Darkover Landfall, but I doubt that it was the first book written. I think that honour goes to the Heritage of Hastur or one of those. I know I started reading this series with Exile's Song, which made a good introduction to the world and the characters.

Anne McCaffrey's books are written like that as well. Dragonsdawn was written well after Dragonflight and Dragonquest, or so I understand.

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend

Admittedly, this one's a day late, but here's the June book list. It's a fairly long one too. There's going to be more science fiction and Andre Norton in July as well as I was at a garage sale and got about thirty books this month.

Got the first draft of the term paper finished in time (think midnight last night).

Did my regular run to my favourite second-hand book store last week. Took in two boxes of books and picked up the following:
Marion Zimmer Bradley:
Hunters of the Red Moon
Survivors
The Bloody Sun

Harry Turtledove:
The North Kingdom
Thessalonia

Andre Norton:
Fur Magic

Mercedes Lackey:
The Black Swan

Misc:
Tacitus (translation)
Dante The Divine Comedy the Inferno (The Musa translation. Anyone have any opinions on whether this or the Sayers translation is better?)
The Canterbury Tales (translation)

Well, school was canceled today because of snow.

Still working on the "B's" under Characters from Middle-Earth.

Finished reading one of the books I bought yesterday.
It's the new Valdemar short stories anthology, Sun in Glory. The stories, overall were good, but I wish more of them had some identifying factors for when they occurred. The short story by Lackey herself was good, especially if you like the new Alberich books.

Started to read the Skystone. It's as good as I remembered (I had a copy of all the books a few years ago, but sold them to a second hand bookstore when I lost interest. Now I'm buying new copies again).

Just bought the first two Jack Whyte novels and the latest book of Valdemar short stories.

Got the Jack Whytes to go with the latest novel (Christmas gift). I know what I'm going to be reading for the rest of the week. I love bookstore gift certificates!

With the 2nd hand bookstore spree last month, I have too many books to read. I can't decide where to start.

Side note: it hasn't gotten above zero once today BRRR!
