Ikea
That place is deadly to the budget! They have so many good deals.

I went to get all new shelving, a bedside table and a lamp.

I came home with the shelves I wanted (planned and a better priced set than I'd looked at originally in the catalogue), a CD/DVD tower (planned), a nightstand and then I went kind of crazy: tea towels were only 49 cents each and on down the list of household things I needed. Came back with two overflowing Ikea bags (the kind you can hang on the handles of their big carts).

They've got so much more stuff than I thought they did.

9,000-Year-Old Beer Tastes Great
VOA News
A Delaware brewery known for its specialty beers has created a new one based on a 9,000-year-old recipe. VOA's Liu Enming recently traveled to Dogfish Head Craft Brewery to taste Chateau Jiahu beer. Jim Bertel narrates...

Heck, it's older than he is.

Given the way my posts are these days, I think I need to come up with a Highlander themed icon.

Watching the family cat I started to figure out what the sports would be in a feline olympics. So far, I've come up with the following:
Sleeping - would be hard to judge as every cat is so good at it.
Pouncing - Would probably be won by either a stray or a mother with kittens.
Leaping - both horizontal and high-jump.
Climbing - Probably the gold medalist would be an Absynnian.
Stretching - Same as sleeping.
Washing - I think I have the cat who would be the gold medalist.
Hunting - Again, I thought I would have the gold medalist. However, Desmond Morris's book
Catwatching
showed me that our cat is nowhere near the record setter.

But this was fun.

I escaped from the Dungeon of Ithidrial!

I killed Matociquala the arch-demon, Carenejeans the fire elemental, Bubblesbrnaid the cockatrice, Saighin the gelatinous cube, Endaewen the giant spider, Sharpiesgal the fire elemental, Calime33 the leprechaun, Fkfanfic the rat and Mischief5 the leprechaun.

I looted the Wand of Forever Knight, the Sceptre of Pirates, a Figurine of Mandragora1, the Sword of Auntyk, the Dagger of Methos, the Axe of Aelora, the Crown of Evildrem, the Axe of Orkney, the Sceptre of Highlander, the Wand of Nessa5, the Dagger of Dracschick and 276 gold pieces.

Score: 451

I just watched someone make (and eat) the strangest desert:
The desert itself was Birds Custard on stewed apricots. They just added strawberry icecream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream.

Just a thought on the previous post. Perhaps my last statemenot on cats owners isn't accurate. I just remembered a saying I saw on a poster: "Dogs have owners, Cats have staff". Perhaps I should have said homes instead of owners.

Didn't get pranked this year, which is nice.

On a related topic, does anyone know where April Fools Day originated?

Edited to add: correct that about being pranked, I have a feeling that LiveJournal has a few changes made in honour of the day.

There's a lightbulb in the kitchen that's rapidly turing into one of those "how many people does it take to change a lightbulb" jokes.

It's one of the long tube type, and it's been so longe since we've had to change one that none of the family remember how to do it. Dad's given up, Mom's checking all the household tips books, and I'm not even going to try.
